It’s my most favourite time of year! The month of Ramadan has dawned upon us! For those who don’t know, Ramadan is a month in the Islamic calendar where Muslims fast from dawn to dusk. Now, I could answer and explain several questions about Ramadan here, but thank you Buzzfeed for covering that for me in an amazing article that sums everything up. (If you have questions, feel free to post them below!)
Ramadan is treated like a guest! We get our finest foods ready, put a huge smile on our face and go the extra mile to welcome our guest, and make sure its a hospitable stay.
What I love most about Ramadan is the special prayer called taraweeh that is prayed every night. Why do I love this? Because this is the only time of the year you get to pray taraweeh and I feel this prayer helps create that spiritual connection that is needed during this month. In the duration of this prayer, over the span of 30 days, the aim is to complete the recitation of the Quran (the holy book for Muslims). It looks something like this.
Another thing I cherish about this month is the feeling of togetherness established with my family, friends and overall with the Muslims around the world. The feeling of being united by one common event gives a warm happy fuzzy feeling on the inside. At this time, we also remember the less fortunate people around the world who may not have the lavish food we get to eat while breaking our fast, for some, fasting is a usual thing. Nonetheless, charity is encouraged overall, and especially during this month, so that others can have a joyous Ramadan with their families, just as we are!
Happy Ramadan 🙂
